Carers TOP replaces the Flexible Breaks Scheme...
The Flexible Breaks Scheme (FBS) ended in June and has been replaced by the Carers Time Out Project or Carers TOP. There are some changes under this new scheme: one of the main changes is that both the carer and the cared-for person must be aged 18 or over.
Carers can only be considered for a grant once every two years — and this includes grants awarded previously under the FBS scheme.
There is a new application form, new guidelines and new criteria for this scheme, which you can download by clicking here. It is essential that you read the guidelines and criteria carefully before completing the form.
Please see the questions and answers list below for more information or ring the CCC main number or your Carer Support Worker if you have one.
What is the aim of the grant?
The funding is intended to enhance life outside the caring role, with the objective of helping to relieve stress and isolation. This in turn and can lead to both short and long-term health benefits.
Who can apply?
To be eligible for the grant both you and the person you care for must be aged 18 or over and the cared for person must be resident in the borough of Camden.
How much can I apply for?
The maximum amount that you can apply for is £300.
What can I spend my grant on?
You can use the grant to pay for (or put towards the cost of) anything that will give you a break from your caring role. This can include joining a gym, having complementary therapies, taking driving lessons, paying course fees, taking a day trip or short break, visiting friends, going to the theatre or taking up a hobby.
You cannot get a grant for a something that you have already paid for.
How do I apply for a grant?
Download from this page (see above) or contact Camden Carers Centre for an application form, criteria and guidelines. These can either be emailed or posted to you.
How long will it take for a decision to be made?
The panel meets on a regular basis. It can take a few weeks to process an application from the time it is received. Please bear this in mind when planning your activity — and that not all applications will be successful.
